The Campers are Here!

We are so excited to open the summer 2017 season with such amazing girls! Staff has worked tirelessly this past year to make 2017 our best summer yet. We redesigned the dining hall and crafted a beach on the canoe lake! We also welcomed returning and new staff members last week to carry on our Keystone traditions.

Energy buzzed all around on opening day. Dressed in our whites, we greeted girls by the bridge with songs and cheers as their counselors walked them to their cabins. The next three hours were spent greeting old friends and making new ones as the girls settled in for the first session of our 101st year. For lunch, we enjoyed chicken tenders, fries, rice, and salad prepared by our lovely kitchen staff while the campers sang and chatted with their new cabinmates.

After lunch, activity scheduling, games, and swim parties ensued. We have such a wide range of activities to offer our campers, everything from canoeing and climbing to yoga and a cappella! The girls then ran through a shortened version of their schedules to test the waters in all their new activities. From there, it was already time to lower the flag and eat dinner. We enjoyed Ms. Bertha’s spaghetti, garlic bread, broccoli, kale, salad, and cookies N cream ice cream for dessert!

Campfire quickly followed where we emphasized the 4 Lamps of Woodcraft: Love, Truth, Beauty, and Fortitude, after which Anna and Lo led the group in songs. Then, all the counselors got together to sing camp-ified renditions of Can’t Fight This Feeling, Sit Still, Look Pretty, and Thunder for our girls. The night ended with taps on the hill and the cabins’ first circle times.

Keystone Camp is an amazing place for girls to be themselves. We saw this through the smiles on their faces as they passed our bridge. For campers new and old, we have a multitude of opportunities this summer for growth, friendship, and girl power. It’s a place to return to nature and to the baseline sentiment of connection. It’s a place where we lift each other up and put the other girl first.

Welcome, campers! Keystone is thrilled that you are here.
