It seemed as if February would never arrive here at Keystone Camp! We had extremely cold temperatures and several bouts of ice and snow throughout January. It was so nice to see the calendar roll over to February and know that we’re getting closer to warmer temperatures, green grass, and CAMP!
We enjoyed a fun trip to Atlanta for a show at Missy Means Madden’s house. We had a great turnout from current Keystone campers and were also excited to welcome some new faces. It is always such a full circle moment for us to host a show at the home of a former camper. Missy has great memories of hanging out in her basement playing with other Keystone girls while Page was upstairs with their parents hosting an open house. We treasure those relationships and can think of no better testament to our program than to have alumnae children here at camp.
Looking ahead, we will be on the road to Tampa and Savannah near the end of the month as we make our way to Orlando for our yearly ACA conference. We look forward to learning new ideas for camp and to continue growing in our roles for the upcoming season. We want each summer to be the best summer ever at Keystone Camp!
Martha, MED, and Heidi were able to witness something entirely unique to Brevard this morning. At the Blue Ridge Bakery in downtown, they gathered to watch Pisgah Pete, Brevard’s most famous white squirrel, come out of hibernation to give us the spring forecast. Spoiler alert – he predicted 6 more weeks of winter. There is a 100% chance of snow in our forecast for this weekend, so it’s safe to say this was not a huge surprise. We feel so lucky to get to live in this special place year round, and love to share it with all of you each summer. Check out our Facebook video of Pisgah Pete doing his thing!
The new cabins are moving along at lightning speed despite our crummy weather. Faraway is looking almost done, with siding, windows, and roofing almost complete. It has been really neat to watch the whole process, and we think you all will be pleased when you see it. It still feels a little strange to walk up from the gym and not see Skylark sitting in its original place. But we have a great view of it from the office and know that it’s going to quickly become one of our most loved cabins.
Our Friday update would not be complete without some Apple news. This was a big week for her as she not only got a new stuffed monkey to love on, but she also got a new bed for the office. The last time I checked on her, Duke had claimed her new bed but she was laying on the floor beside it with one determined foot planted firmly inside. She is such a sweet and loving dog and it really feels like she’s always been here. We can’t wait for you to meet her!
Happy Groundhog Day!
