The first few days of activities have gone so well. We’re so happy to have such a great group of girls here at Keystone.
Monday evening, we all participated in Gold Rush! Our CITs painted rocks gold and we split up into our team game groups to collect the most weight in the tagged rocks. The girls had a blast running around camp with their teams which allowed them to form and strengthen friendships. We ended the evening with a fairly even pile of rocks per team. The results were announced the next evening; congratulations Shawnees!
Happy 4th of July! A group of Dryads and Pixies left for the Firecracker 5K before the rising bell rang. This morning’s bell was accompanied by our barn staff announcing on painted horses that the British were coming! For Tuesday’s breakfast, we enjoyed pancakes, fruit, and sausages. The morning was, as always, packed with activities. We ate BBQ sandwiches and coleslaw for lunch. For dinner, we had a cookout, enjoying burgers, potato salad, chips, and cupcakes on the green. That evening, the cabins competed in a KC Adventure Quest, trying to complete all the tasks in an hour. These included things like singing a camp song from the porch on See-off or jumping into the swim lake.
Wednesday kicked off the trips for July. We all ate breakfast casserole before beginning the day. A trip to the French Broad with canoeing left soon after assembly as well as a climbing trip to Cove Creek. An all day hike to Devil’s Courthouse and Skinny Dip Falls left also. We ate corn dogs, pretzels, and watermelon for lunch and enjoyed rest hour afterwards. Three trips left in the afternoon: one to hike to Rainbow Falls, one to swim at Coon Tree, and the last to swim at Whale’s Back. Once everyone was back, we had a pizza night on the green! From there, Elves and Pixies went to Sliding Rock while Dryads enjoyed KC Adventure Quest here at camp.
Today, we ate french toast and bacon for breakfast and began another packed day! Pilot House and Edgewood left for tubing in the morning and our LITs and Aides went white water rafting as part of a leadership adventure. The Camp Crafts overnight left today as well. Later tonight, the cabins will be crafting their intro skits, to be performed in front of camp on our stage. We look forward to seeing what these creative ladies come up with!
Thank you, campers, for such a fun start to the July session. We can’t wait for all that’s in store for the next three and a half weeks!
