Campership Fund

In Honor of Bill & Sue Ives

Giving Back

Established in 2006 during our 90th anniversary year, our Campership Fund helps provide summer camp experiences for children of Transylvania County families who would otherwise not be able to attend.

I can’t think of a better way to honor the memory of my parents than through a fund that makes it possible for deserving children to become one of our “girls of summer.” As you are so aware, a summer camp experience can be life altering, and it can do more for a child’s self-confidence and independence than almost anything else.

My parents took camp to a new level in their lifetimes. Those of you who remember the stories from campfire know that nothing new was built at camp from the time Miss Florence (my great-great aunt) died, and my father joined his mother in the late 1950′s. Daddy’s leadership and interest in construction expanded camp beyond the swimming lake. He built the canoeing lake and developed the upper hill cabins. Together, he and my Mom brought in new activity programs, and developed the Silver KC. So many girls learned so much from them over their 24 years as Directors.

If you’d like to make a donation to the Bill and Sue Ives Campership Fund, make your check payable to the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC), 4 Vanderbilt Park Dr. #300, Asheville, NC 28803. Please reference the Bill and Sue Ives Campership Fund in the memo line. We are hoping to see this fund grow in its ability to provide great summer camp experience for deserving children.

It is overwhelming to realize the many thousands of girls who have passed through our gates during the four generations of my family’s leadership. We have been lucky to know each other and to have learned from one another. Yet the real measure of what we accomplish is in what we mean to others. Help us celebrate Bill and Sue Ive’s legacy at Keystone by considering a contribution to this fund which means so much to me and to our entire Keystone family.
